About the hospital
The Sahlgrenska University Hospital has the skills to carry out the most advanced treatments and interventions possible at the current state of medical development, at the same time as focusing on the consideration and care of our patients. Continuous development and improvement is an important objective in order to ensure the highest standards of quality. As one of Sweden’s largest university hospitals, we are in close proximity to all areas of education and research at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg.
The Sahlgrenska University Hospital functions as the county hospital for residents of the Gothenburg region as well as being an engine for healthcare and medical development in Region Västra Götaland. Patients from the whole region come here for different specialist treatment, and the hospital’s specialist skills and knowledge are distributed throughout the region. We treat patients from all over Sweden with our leading-edge skills in approximately 25 special areas, including cardiovascular care, reconstructive surgery, children’s care, vaccinations, immunology, rheumatology and catheter interventions. Child heart surgery at our Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital has been awarded a national healthcare permit by the National Board of Health and Welfare.
